Mexican Imports of furniture made of wood, plastic, metal and other materials, excluding seats and mattresses, totaled US$ 390 million until September 2011, representing a growth of 17% over the same period last year. Brazil accounts for about 1% of this market. In 2010, it exported US$ 5.8 million, in 2011, until September, US$ 3.5 million. The biggest Brazilian competitors in this market include the USA and China, which account for more than 70% of the Mexican imports of furniture.

The Mexican market

Cesar Boeira Nepomuceno, director of the International Affairs of Movelsul Brasil, explains that the Mexican market is very important and has characteristics similar to the Brazilian market. Thus, the furniture does not require design adaptations to be accepted in that country. “One of the few problems we have is the need to have a partner within the country for the marketing of products, as they have a very specific negotiation system with buyers and also different logistics,” he says.
